## Machias - High School Social Studies

**U.S History** - This will discuss major historical events that happened in the United States.

**World History** - This course will discuss major historical events across the globe.

**Civics and Government** - Thus course will discuss the U.S. Government structure, and how voting reflects the concept of democratic representation of all people, and Immigration.

## Machias - High School Mathematics

with George McBride

**Pre-Algebra** - This course introduces students of mathematics to an understanding of mathematical principles required for future success in Algebra.

**Algebra I** - This course develops understanding of abstract concepts in algebra such as: fractions, integers, exponents, quadratic equations etc.

**Algebra II** - This course builds off of the Algebra I course but, more in depth into abstract concepts in algebra.

**Geometry** - This course introduces students to a visual and numerical study of shapes, sizes, patterns, and positions.

**Exploratory Science** - This course is a general overview of Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and the Universe.

**Biology** - This covers topics of biology including: Matter and Energy in organisms and Ecosystems, Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems, Natural Selection and Evolution and more.

**Chemistry** - This course covers topics in chemistry including atoms, molecules, ions, reactions in Aqueous Solutions, and more.

## Indian Twp - High School English I, II, III, IV

with Valerie Lawson

These four courses cover Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior English. These courses will be based on the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts. Writing, vocabulary development, readings of informational texts, and opportunities to develop speaking and listening skills are all included. Along with exploring works of powerful literature from around the globe.
