Memoir Writing: The People, Places, and Things That We Love
with Tessa Mellas

Have you ever wanted to turn your favorite memories into stories you can share with family, friends, and the world? Take this six-week memoir writing course to give yourself the structure, support, and skills to start crafting the material of your life into vivid short memoir stories. We will focus on three themes: the people, places, and objects that are most dear and important to who we are. We will read and discuss published memoir for inspiration and to learn writing strategies. We will get our writing juices flowing with writing prompts. We will turn one prompt into a full short memoir story (also called a personal essay). We will read each other’s personal essays and offer helpful feedback so we can start revising our essays to make them ready to share!
Both new and experienced writers are welcome and will enjoy this course, taught by a published writer with an MFA and doctorate in creative writing! The focus of this course will be creativity, support, and nourishment during the cold winter months!

Clothesline In Poems
with Valerie Lawson

Clothing is fashion, style, and armor. Whether we’re getting decked out in formal wear or pulling something out of the hamper that passes the sniff test, we spend most of our lives dressed down, dressed to the nines, dressed to the hilt. In this workshop, we look at some examples of writing about clothes and using various exercises and prompts, participants craft their own poems. You can write about the last time she wore that red dress, my first bra, swimsuits (shudder), my favorite jeans, SHOES, bustiers, accessories, we all have a closet full of stories. Poets are given the option to share their work in the group.
